More Than Pajamas: What Comfort Looks Like for Our Baddies

There are a lot of conversations in the breast cancer community about treatment, surgery, survivorship, and everything our bodies experience along the way. We don’t always talk as much about comfort and what that can look like during and after breast cancer.

Sometimes comfort means sleeping through the night without overheating. It can also mean finding something that moves with your body as it changes or putting something on that simply makes you feel good in your skin.

That’s why we were excited when Whisp partnered with For the Breast of Us to bring a little extra comfort to our Baddies.

Whisp provided sleepwear to five of our Baddie Ambassadors and invited them to experience the pieces for themselves. More importantly, they wanted to know what our Baddies actually thought.

Our Baddies understood the assignment.

They slept in the pieces, moved around in them, and paid attention to how the fabric felt throughout the night. They also shared what worked for their bodies and what they thought could make the products even better.

Here’s what we heard.

Let’s Start With the Softness

One thing came through consistently in the feedback: these pieces are soft.

Lynley described her sleepwear as feeling almost like velvet against the skin.” She ordered a size small, and the fit was perfect for her. The set was also easy to put on and take off, and most importantly, she slept really well in it.

Melishia had a similar experience with the Long-Sleeve Button Down Pajama Set with Lace-Trim. She loved the softness of the fabric and thought the weight was just right without feeling too thick or too thin. Her size medium fit comfortably and flatteringly while still allowing easy movement.

Kimberly’s Lace-Trim Sleep Dress also felt like an upgrade from what she would normally wear to bed. She described the material as soft and lightweight with enough stretch to move comfortably throughout the night.

Sometimes, feeling a little more comfortable at bedtime can really make a difference.

Staying Cool Was a Big Deal

Several of our Baddies also noticed how well the sleepwear kept them cool at night.

Melishia shared that she normally has a hard time sleeping in clothes because she gets hot and eventually takes them off. She didn’t experience that with her Whisp pajamas.

I stayed cool and comfortable throughout the night and slept beautifully.”

Kimberly also appreciated how cool her sleep dress kept her while she slept. Faith, a side sleeper who moves from side to side throughout the night, said her nightgown didn’t ride up or bunch. She also didn’t wake up feeling hot or sweaty.

For Aisha, the cooling aspect of her Cami Lounge Set was especially important because she’s been navigating menopause-related temperature changes.

It was nice to not have to play the covers on, covers off game throughout the night because I wasn’t getting hot.

If you’ve experienced those nighttime temperature changes, you already know how much staying comfortable can affect your sleep. For women impacted by breast cancer, menopause and changing bodies can also become part of the experience, which made this aspect of the feedback particularly meaningful.

Comfort Can Also Be About How You Feel in Your Body

Faith’s experience reminded us that physical comfort isn’t the only thing that matters.

She typically reaches for sleep shirts, so wearing a slip-style nightgown was outside of her usual comfort zone. When she first put it on, she noticed how the fabric hugged areas of her body she feels more self-conscious about.

After wearing it for a while, though, she noticed the fabric beginning to relax and move more naturally with her body. She loved the lace detailing because it allowed the nightgown to feel feminine and sexy without feeling overly lingerie-like.

There was another detail that stood out to Faith because of her experience with breast cancer and reconstruction. She felt that the top helped her breasts appear more balanced.

By the end of her experience, she told us:

I would recommend it to another breast cancer survivor looking for something comfortable that can also help her feel feminine and sexy again.

Kimberly felt that same sense of femininity in her sleep dress. She loved the soft blue color and thought the lace added a romantic touch without sacrificing comfort.

Wearing it made me feel relaxed, feminine, and a little more luxurious—even during my nighttime routine.

Breast cancer can change someone’s relationship with her body in ways that are deeply personal. We loved hearing that comfort and feeling good in your body could exist together in these pieces.

The Fit Had to Work for Real Bodies

Our Baddies also paid close attention to how the pieces fit their bodies and whether they remained comfortable as they moved.

Aisha ordered a large in the Cami Lounge Set and appreciated the additional room in both the top and bottom. She specifically mentioned that the fit worked well for the weight fluctuations she’s experienced with menopause. For someone who prefers a more fitted lounge set, she suggested sizing down.

Kimberly, who is 4’11”, was happy with the length of her sleep dress because it fell just above her knees. She also appreciated having enough stretch through the hips to move comfortably without feeling restricted.

Lynley and Melishia were both pleased with the fit of the sizes they chose, which let them sleep and move comfortably throughout the night.

These details may seem small, but they matter when bodies change throughout treatment, recovery, and life after breast cancer.

Of Course, Our Baddies Had Notes

We asked for honest feedback, and our Baddies delivered.

Lynley had very few complaints about her pajama set, but she noticed the tag on the back of the pants became irritating after she wore them for a while. She suggested printing the label directly onto the fabric instead. She’d also love to see her set offered in a soft yellow and would welcome a short-sleeve version for those hot Texas nights.

Faith and Kimberly both experienced issues with the straps on their sleep dresses. Kimberly found hers tended to slip off her shoulders. Faith had difficulty finding the right adjustment because tightening the straps affected how the cups sat, while loosening them caused the straps to slip. Faith also noted that the higher price point is something she would consider when recommending the product.

Aisha would happily purchase her set in additional colors, while Melishia didn’t identify anything she would change about hers.

The feedback wasn’t identical, and that’s important. Products interact differently with different bodies, which is exactly why hearing directly from the women wearing them matters.

What Our Baddies Thought Overall

After hearing from everyone, comfort was clearly one of the strongest parts of their experience with Whisp. Every Baddie mentioned the softness and overall comfort of the sleepwear, and several specifically appreciated how cool they stayed throughout the night.

We also heard something that went beyond whether a pajama set was comfortable. For some of our Baddies, the sleepwear made them feel feminine or gave their normal nighttime routine a more elevated feel. Faith’s experience also showed how something as specific as the way a garment sits across the chest can matter differently after breast cancer and reconstruction.

At the same time, our Baddies gave Whisp practical feedback about where the products could continue to improve. Their comments about strap adjustability and tag placement came directly from wearing the pieces in real life, while requests for additional colors and styles showed what they would genuinely consider purchasing in the future.

That’s one of the things we appreciated most about this partnership. Whisp didn’t simply put products into the hands of our community. They created an opportunity for our Baddies to tell them what worked and what didn’t.

Thank You, Whisp

We’re grateful to Whisp for partnering with For the Breast of Us and giving five of our Baddies the opportunity to experience their sleepwear.

We’re equally grateful to have their voices in the process.

At FTBOU, we believe Women of Color impacted by breast cancer deserve to be represented in the conversations and products that are created with breast cancer communities in mind. That also means creating opportunities for them to share what actually works for their bodies and what could work better.

Sometimes supporting our Baddies means advocating for better care or making sure their experiences are represented in important conversations. Other times, it can be as simple as finding something that helps them feel comfortable in their bodies and get a good night’s sleep.

Thank you, Whisp, for bringing a little more comfort to our Baddies and for listening to what they had to say.  Whisp provided these items to our Ambassadors free of charge in exchange for their honest opinions.
