Our mission is to empower women of color affected by breast cancer to make the rest of their lives the best of their lives through education, advocacy and community.

Stay informed, do your research, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Through my journey, I’ve realized the need for open health discussions within the Haitian community, support networks, and organizations like For the Breast of Us to empower Caribbean-American women.

“Don’t talk about it,” they whispered. It was a shroud of secrecy wrapped around a terrifying reality – breast cancer in my Caribbean community. But silence breeds fear, and fear can be deadly. That’s why I’m raising my voice, a voice that echoes with the rhythm of the islands but speaks a truth that transcends cultures.

It is interesting how things come full circle. A traumatic experience breeds fear, sadness, grief, shame and guilt. But positive adaptations to trauma are birthed as well.

Cancer, better known as the Big C, is a negative word altogether, however, I always try to find the positive in every negative situation.

In working with women of color it can be very difficult to find resources that cater to our unique needs. For a lot of us, the mindset is if you are struggling with something, we are taught to rely on our faith. But that can be extremely difficult when you are faced with the unthinkable.
