Complexion Uncomplex – Foundation Makeup 101 for the Breast Cancer Baddie

Alright Baddies, welcome back! It’s Patricia Fox, The Pink Sistah, and today we are focusing on everything complexion! When shopping for your complexion products there are different things to look out for! In this article I will share some basics about foundation, so let’s get right into it!

There are three different types of foundation textures, three different types of foundation coverage and three different finishes. But wait! What is foundation? It is makeup for your face to conceal uneven complexion concerns such as blemishes, scars, or manipulate the appearance of skin.

Texture

Foundation comes in liquid, cream, and powder textures. Liquid foundations come in different formulas such as BB Creams, CCs, and fuller-bodied formulas that offer more coverage.

BB simply means beauty balm, CC is color correcting for either redness concerns or bruises, and fuller body formulas lean more into coverage and application.

We will discuss this more, later. Cream foundations usually come in compacts or stick packages. And powders are packaged in pressed compacts or loose for sweeping application with a powder brush.

Coverage

If you desire some coverage while allowing your skin to peek through, meaning that you love flaunting natural beauty with minor enhancement, you may want a lightweight product like a BB cream, which simply means “beauty balm.”

You may even opt for a tinted moisturizer that allows your natural skin to peek through more than a BB. Tinted moisturizers, however, are not to be used in place of a moisturizer!

Fully body liquid foundation products and cream textures offer medium to full coverage for your complexion and can be layered for a skin-like appearance no matter how intense the blemish or concern.

A powder foundation may also offer similar coverage, blurring texture concerns (contingent appropriate skincare and priming). Powders are also buildable, so the more you apply the fuller coverage may appear.

Be mindful that finishing or setting powders are complexion products and most times (if translucent), do not offer coverage. These powders are simply designed to finish or set a makeup look. Each formula may also offer a blurring effect to soften or “hide” blemishes. The brand packaging will advise the features and benefits.

Finish

Complexion products have different finishes – natural, matte, luminous and radiant. Depending on your skin type, or preference for how you’d want your skin to look will be the determining factors of the foundation you choose.

Natural finish means it looks like your beautiful skin. This is perfect for all skin types. Oilier skin types may prefer matte finish which will alleviate shine concern. Matte foundations may also offer a soft air brush look to the skin. Luminous finishes may offer a glow for the Baddie who feels her complexion lacks luster resulting from fatigue, side effects from prescriptions, etc. Radiant finish is a dewy look that sometimes makes the skin look bouncy and glowy.
